Drywall or plaster (escayola): which is better?
For today's renovations we recommend drywall: it goes up faster, hides services, takes thermal and acoustic insulation, costs less and is easy to repair. Traditional plaster (escayola) is more expensive and makes sense for mouldings, cornices and classic decorative elements. For large smooth ceilings, drywall is the practical choice.
How long does a drywall ceiling take?
In a 20 m² room the frame and boards are installed in 2 days and the ceiling is ready to paint in 3–5 days, including joint drying. In an 80 m² flat, new ceilings take 8–12 working days, painting not included.
What is usually installed together with a drywall ceiling?
Recessed spotlights (€35–60 per light point), LED strip in a cove (€50–90 per linear metre), concealed curtain tracks (€20–40), access hatches and ventilation grilles (€10–50) and preparation for ducted air conditioning. The air-conditioning unit and complex electrical work are quoted separately.
Do you take small jobs, a single room?
Yes, we do a ceiling or a partition for a single room. The recommended minimum order is €2,000 excluding VAT: even a small area needs material transport, frame installation and several visits.
